The island

Anonyme in short.

Anonyme is ten hectares of granite seven hundred metres off the east coast of Mahé, close enough to the international airport that aircraft on final approach pass over it. It is named after a sailing ship, and it has more folklore attached to it than its size suggests.

The island

A small island with a long story

The island takes its name from a hundred-and-eighty-tonne ship that carried supplies between Mauritius and Réunion. It belonged for generations to the St Jorre family, among the earliest settlers in Seychelles, and it carries the usual Seychellois freight of ghost stories and buried treasure.

Its least romantic and most concrete role was as the store for the explosives used to build the international airport on the reclaimed land opposite.

The island

What it is now

A warden lives on the island. There is a small restaurant on the east side at Anse Pimen Vert and clear water around the granite. Whether a visitor can arrange to go depends on what is operating at the time, which is why this page does not promise anything.
