Which island should we sleep on?
Most weeks divide well into three. Two or three nights on Mahé at the start and the end, because that is where the plane lands. Three or four on Praslin, which is the base for the palm forest and for the boats. Two on La Digue, which almost everybody does as a day trip and almost everybody regrets doing as a day trip. The ferries link all three inside an hour or so.
Where should we stay on Mahé?
The west coast, from Port Launay down to Baie Lazare, is the quiet half and holds the beautiful addresses. The north coast, Beau Vallon and Bel Ombre, is the busy half and holds the restaurants, the dive centres and the Wednesday food market. Neither is better. If it is a first trip and you want to go out in the evenings, take the north.
Where should we stay on Praslin?
Côte d'Or, which the map also calls Anse Volbert, if you want the beach and the boats at your door. It is where most of the island's day trips leave from. The quieter corners, Anse Kerlans in the north-west and Anse Boudin next to Anse Lazio, hold the villa resorts.
Is it worth sleeping on La Digue?
Yes, and it is the single change that most improves a Seychelles itinerary. Most visitors come over from Praslin for the day, and in the late afternoon the boats take them all away again. What is left is an island of bicycles with almost nobody on it. Two nights in La Passe is enough to see that.
What does a night actually cost?
We cannot tell you, and any guide page that gives you a confident number is guessing at a rate that changes with the season and the room. The one published nightly rate we can point at is AliBel's own, which starts at €180 for a studio for two, and that is a fair marker for the honest middle of the market.
Do you take a commission?
