What we actually do

The civil one makes you married. The other one is why your family came.

The wedding that makes you married is the civil one, held in front of a Seychelles civil status officer. Everything else, the mandap, the pheras, the priest, the seven steps, happens around it and is yours to shape.

For the paperwork, India is in an unusually good position. India has been a party to the Hague Apostille Convention since 14 July 2005, which means an apostille from the Ministry of External Affairs is the end of the Indian side. There is no further consular legalisation after it. Your documents then go through the Seychelles attestation chain on this end, which we do for you.

We ask couples to land at least a week before the date. That is our own scheduling rule and not a law. It exists so that nothing about your wedding is being decided at a counter on the morning of it.

Where a mandap goes up

Five properties that cook Indian and set a mandap.

This is not a list of every hotel on the islands. It is the five that have done this before, which on a wedding day is the only thing that counts.

Four Seasons Resort Seychelles

Petite Anse, Mahé

A private crescent of sand under the hill, reached by buggy. The mandap goes on the beach and the pheras happen with nobody else on it.

Kempinski Seychelles Resort

Baie Lazare, Mahé

The largest Indian kitchen capacity on the island, and a lawn above the bay that takes a full baraat without anyone raising their voice about it.

Anantara Maia Seychelles Villas

Anse Louis, Mahé

Thirty villas, one beach, no day guests. The one we suggest when the answer to how many people is under twenty.

Raffles Seychelles

Anse Takamaka, Praslin

The Praslin option with room for the whole party, ten minutes from Anse Lazio for the photographs.

Hilton Seychelles Northolme

Glacis, Mahé

Cliffside villas on the north-west coast, so a June to September wedding still gets flat water and a sunset behind the ceremony.

One real morning

Not a stock photograph on this page.

Every frame on this site is a wedding this family shot on these islands.

A bride in a lace gown and a groom in white linen, framed by a bleached driftwood branch, the lagoon behind them
The registrar writing at a white table while the couple stand together under an arch of white flowers
The couple holding both hands under a bamboo canopy hung with white drapes
Close on the groom sliding the ring onto the bride's finger
The couple walking the shoreline hand in hand, an islet across the water
The cake dressed with frangipani and greenery on the table
Black and white: the groom leaning in to his bride against a shadowed granite wall
The bride's train spread across a hilltop terrace at sunset, the coast far below
The bride's tiered skirt swinging as they kiss on the rocks
The rings in a white shell resting on the register, roses beside them
The couple on the rocks with their arms up, a yacht on the turquoise water behind
The couple beneath a huge low-spreading tree on the sand

Is a Seychelles wedding legally valid in India?

Yes. A civil marriage registered in Seychelles is a marriage. You are given a marriage certificate, and the supplementary package adds a Supreme Court apostille to it, which is the form Indian offices ask for. India has been a party to the Hague Apostille Convention since 14 July 2005, so nothing further is needed after the apostille.

Can we have a mandap and pheras, or only a beach ceremony?

Both, and most of our couples do both. The civil ceremony is short and it is the one that makes you married. The Hindu ceremony is the one your family came for. Five properties on these islands set a mandap and cook Indian: Four Seasons, Kempinski, Anantara Maia, Raffles and Hilton Northolme.

Who conducts the religious ceremony?

Most families bring their own pandit, which is the arrangement we would suggest: the person who knows your family should be the person at the fire. If you would rather we asked locally, say so early and we will ask. We will tell you what we find, including if the answer is no.

Will there be Jain and vegetarian food?

Yes, and it does not need a fight. The hotels above cook to a brief when the kitchen is told in advance, and Mahé has real Indian kitchens outside the resorts. Jain requirements need notice rather than luck. Tell us at the enquiry and it is arranged before you land.

When should we get married here?

April to May and October to November. Those are the two windows when the trades have dropped and the water goes flat, so a beach ceremony is a beach ceremony rather than a wind report. If your muhurat falls elsewhere in the year, we move the coast rather than the date.

What does it actually cost?

The builder above is the real price list, not an indication. A complete legal wedding on Mahé starts at €1,645 · ₹1,81,000 per couple with every government fee inside it. Praslin and La Digue cost more because everything has to cross water to get there. Photography, film, styling and the document package are priced separately so you can leave out what you do not want.

Tell us the muhurat.

Send the date, or the month, or just the year. Meera reads it and writes back with what is actually possible.
