The beach day out of Victoria

Cerf Island

Island · Marine national park

The island

Cerf Island in short.

Cerf is the easiest island in Seychelles to actually stand on. Ten minutes by boat from Victoria, inside the marine park, with quiet beaches, a few small places to stay and a handful of restaurants that put tables on the sand.

Can you go?

Open. Day boats land here, and there are guest houses if you want to stay.

The island

A day, or a few nights

Most people meet Cerf as the lunch stop on the Sainte Anne park trip: an hour of snorkelling straight off the beach in protected water, then grilled fish and creole curry under the trees with Mahé across the channel.

About a hundred people live here, and a small number of guest houses and lodges take visitors. Staying is a genuinely different holiday: no cars, no road, a boat to Victoria when you want one, and the capital's lights across the water at night.

The island

The water

Because the whole island sits inside the park, the snorkelling starts at the shoreline rather than needing a boat. It is shallow, calm most of the year, and busy with reef fish and turtles. It is the right place to put somebody in the sea for the first time.

Getting there

How you arrive

Ten minutes by boat from the Inter-Island Quay in Victoria or from Eden Island. Day trips run daily, and the guest houses arrange their own transfers.
