Félicité in short.
Félicité is four kilometres east of La Digue, the fifth largest island in the country, and covered in the same sculpted granite. It was a coconut and vanilla plantation of about fifty people until the 1970s, and a resort has occupied a third of it since 2013.

Guests only on the island. The water around it, and the islets beside it, are open on boat trips from La Digue and Praslin.

The rock
The character of Félicité is its granite: outcrops the size of buildings with villas and paths threaded between them and the ocean below. It reads as sculpture rather than landscape, and it is different in kind from anything on Praslin.
Small white beaches sit in the gaps between the rocks. The forest behind is dense and the walking is steep.
An exiled sultan
In the late nineteenth century the British exiled Sultan Abdullah of Perak to Félicité after the killing of the first British Resident in Malaya. He was held on this island, several thousand kilometres from home, before being moved on. It is one of several places in Seychelles used as a quiet corner of the empire.
The islands beside it
Île Cocos, a tiny islet off the north coast, has been a marine park since 1996 and is one of the best snorkelling stops in the country. Les Sœurs and Marianne sit nearby. All three are standard on the boat trips out of La Digue, and none of them requires anything of Félicité itself.
