She drew it, then she built it
Salifa Ally Bell designed AliBel and ran the construction with her own company. The ceilings above the beds are hand-laid parquet in reclaimed island timber, wood that has already had one life. The paintings on the walls are resin and pigment on scorched wood, of coco de mer and hibiscus and palm, and she signs each one. Her husband William stood beside every part of it.
The fruit in the welcome basket grows on the family farm a few steps away, which is also where the tortoises get their breakfast. That is why every second review reaches for the word care. Here it is not a service standard anybody trained for. It is how the place was put together.

Two family houses, four studios

The giants in the garden

Thomas came down to William through his family, the way other families pass on land. Melony is seventy. Tipti walked in about eight years ago and decided to stay. There are young ones still small enough to lift. They eat papaya and breadfruit from the family farm, which is the same farm that fills the basket on your kitchen counter.
The family's own sentence about them is the one worth repeating. They are not an attraction. They are family.

Where exactly is Alibel Beach Villa?
On the bay at Anse à la Mouche, on the quiet south-west coast of Mahé. The beach is about fifty metres from the door, a minute on foot, and Seychelles International Airport is roughly twenty minutes away by road.
How many villas are there, and who are they for?
Six. Two family villas, North and South, each 102 square metres with two super king bedrooms for up to four guests. Four studios for two, called Palm, Avocado, Orange and Janmalac. No two are the same.
What does a night cost?
Published rates start at €180 a night for the Palm and Orange studios, and run to €300 for the South family villa. Alibel charges the same nightly rate direct as it does on the booking platforms.
Is it self-catering?
Yes, all six. Every villa has its own full kitchen, and most have a washing machine. Book direct and a welcome basket of fruit and vegetables from the family farm is waiting when you arrive.
Is there a swimming pool?
Yes. One pool in the tropical garden, shared by all six villas, with the garden and seating around it.
Is any of it wheelchair accessible?
Palm is. A ramp brings you to the door without a step, the floor is level all the way through including into the open walk-in shower, and the bed is a queen with recliner and massage settings. Tell the family your specific needs and they will answer you honestly about what works.
Are the giant tortoises real, and can you meet them?
They are, and you can. Thomas is 197 years old and came down to William Bell through his family. Melony is seventy, Tipti arrived about eight years ago, and there are young ones. Ask your hosts and they will introduce you.

Can they arrange transfers, a car and tours?
Yes. Airport transfers, a rental car delivered and collected, island tours, boat days and dinners are all arranged by the family. There is electric car charging at the villa.
How do I book?
Directly with the family, on their own site. Every button on this page opens alibelbeachvilla.com, where you choose the villa and send them your dates. Payments are taken by card through MCB. We are not in the middle of it, we take no commission on it, and there is no form on this page for exactly that reason.
