Ten minutes from the jetty
Anse Sévère
Beach · Ten minutes from the jetty
Anse Sévère in short.
The north-west beach on La Digue, a flat ride from the jetty, with shade behind the sand, snorkelling off the granite at the north end, and Praslin sitting on the horizon in front of you.
Which months
North-west facing, so the calm months are May to September. It is the beach the island swims at in that half of the year.

The one you can swim at
Anse Source d'Argent is the photograph and Anse Sévère is the swim. The water here is deep enough to actually get into, the bottom is sand, and the granite at the northern end has enough coral and fish around it to be worth a mask.
There are takamaka along the back giving proper shade, and a couple of small places to eat within a minute or two. It is the most straightforwardly useful beach on La Digue.
The evening
The beach faces roughly north west across the channel to Praslin, so the sun goes down over the water in front of it and the whole strip fills up at about half past five with people who have finished cycling for the day.
In the December to March window the channel here can be choppy and the beach takes weed. The east coast is the answer in those months.
How you arrive
About ten minutes by bicycle from the La Digue jetty, north along the flat coast road. There is nowhere on La Digue that is not close.
