On board

What the crossing is like.

Most of the distance is the Cat Cocos run from Mahé to Praslin, a little over an hour of fast catamaran. At Baie Sainte-Anne you step across to the La Digue boat, a fifteen-minute hop, and then you are at La Passe. With a through ticket the change is not something you have to think about.

On the Mahé to La Digue route you can take business, the Lazio Lounge, with wider seats and a little more quiet, which after a long flight from India is worth more than it sounds. And if the sea is up, which happens from June to September, the middle of the boat and the horizon fix most of it.

How long does the Mahé to La Digue ferry take?

About two hours with the change at Praslin, an hour and a half on the direct weekend sailing, on the Cat Cocos and Cat Rose.

What does the Mahé to La Digue ferry cost?

From €68 one way in economy, €89 in business in the Lazio Lounge, children from two to twelve from €39, plus a €2 port fee per adult leaving Mahé. That is about ₹7,500.

How early should we be at the jetty?

Boarding opens thirty minutes before departure and the gate closes fifteen minutes before. Half an hour is enough. An hour is comfortable.

Is luggage included?

Yes, with no weight limit worth worrying about. The crew stow the big cases themselves and hand baggage stays with you.

Can we change the ticket?

Up to three working days before departure. After that it is fixed, so it is worth settling the date early rather than holding it open.

Is the sea rough?

From June to September it can be, when the south-east trades are blowing. It is not dangerous and it is not the open ocean, but it moves. Sit in the middle of the boat, keep your eyes on the horizon, and take something an hour before if you are prone to it.

Do you sell the tickets?

No. Tickets are sold by Viator, our partner, at the operator's own price. We add nothing to it, and this site earns a commission from Viator if you book through our link.
