The honeymoon most people picture is a single beach and nothing to do, and Seychelles will give you that, on any of forty beaches, most of which you will have to yourselves on a weekday. What it also gives you, and the Maldives cannot, is somewhere to go on the days you feel like going somewhere.
The shape that works is two islands and one move, over ten to fourteen nights. Three moves in a fortnight turns a honeymoon into an itinerary, and nobody wants to spend their second week checking out of things.
The shape we book most often
Four or five nights on Praslin, then five or six on La Digue, with a night on Mahé at each end for the flights. Praslin gives you Anse Lazio, Anse Georgette and the boat days. La Digue gives you bicycles, Anse Source d'Argent and a pace that is genuinely slower.
If the trip is ten nights, drop the front night on Mahé and go straight to the ferry. If it is fourteen, put a week on Praslin and use the extra days on the water rather than on a third island.
When to come, for a honeymoon specifically
October, then April. Both sit between the monsoons, both give you calm water on every coast at once, and October has the better evening light of the two. If your dates are the winter wedding season at home, December and January are peak here as well, and the south and east coasts are the calm ones then.
June and July are the cheapest and they are perfectly good, on the north and west coasts. A honeymoon in June at Anse Lazio is not a compromise, it is a saving.

Every beach here is public by law, including the ones in front of the resorts. What that means for a honeymoon is not less privacy, it is more: you are not confined to one hotel's frontage, and the emptiest beaches in the country are the ones nobody owns.
Anse Georgette on Praslin, Anse Major on Mahé at the end of an hour's walk, and almost anywhere on La Digue on a weekday morning. If genuine seclusion is the point of the trip, those are worth more than a hotel category.
The ceremony question
A great many of the couples we look after are not getting married here, they are already married and want the day again, on a beach, with photographs. That is a vow renewal, it needs no paperwork at all, and it is the single most common thing we are asked for by Indian couples.
A legal ceremony is also possible and it does have requirements, which our documents page sets out properly. What we would say here is only this: decide which of the two you want early, because they are very different amounts of administration for a very similar afternoon.
Photographs, which last longer than the hotel
The frames on this page are from our own album and every one of them is a real couple photographed by our own team. That is not a small thing to check when you are choosing who to book with, because a great deal of what is sold as a Seychelles wedding portfolio is stock.
The light here is at its best in the hour after sunrise and the hour before sunset, and sunset is around six all year. An evening ceremony is genuinely an evening one.
What to spend the money on
The room, on one of the two islands, and not on both. A boat day with a skipper rather than a group tour. A photographer. In that order.
What not to spend it on: a third island, a helicopter transfer between two places an hour apart by ferry, and any hotel category bought for a beach that is public anyway.
The thing couples say afterwards
That they wished they had stayed longer in one place and moved once fewer. We hear it often enough that it is now the first thing we say when a honeymoon enquiry arrives with four islands in it.
