What it costs, in rupees
Seychelles has a reputation for being out of reach. Some of it is deserved and some of it is a resort brochure. Here is the arithmetic, line by line.
Seychelles is expensive. It is not as expensive as you were told.
The reputation comes from the resorts and the resorts have earned it. What the reputation hides is that the beaches here are public by law, the ferry is a scheduled boat with a ticket price, a hire car is forty-five euros a day and goes everywhere, and an apartment with a kitchen is an ordinary thing to book rather than a compromise.
So there are two Seychelles trips at very different prices, and most people planning from India have only ever been shown the first one. Below is the arithmetic of the second, with every figure taken from a price this site publishes elsewhere.
What we can price, and what we will not
We arrange car hire, tours, transfers, taxis and weddings, so those are the things we can put a number against and stand behind. We do not sell hotels, flights or meals, which means we have no room rate, no air fare and no restaurant bill that is ours rather than somebody else's.
That is a real limit and this page states it rather than filling the gap with an average found on another site. For rooms, our hotel guides link to each property's own listing. For flights, the flights page carries a live search rather than a number we typed in and forgot to update.
The ground costs, in euros and in rupees
These are the published prices. The euro figure is the price. The rupee figure beside it is indicative and moves with the rate, which is why the rate and its date are printed under the table instead of being quietly assumed.
The single largest saving available to an Indian family is the hire car. A week at forty-five euros a day reaches every beach on Mahé, the market, the supermarkets that make self-catering possible, and the other coast on the days the wind is on the wrong one. Taxis for the same week cost several times as much.

Euros are what these are quoted in and the rupee figure beside each one is indicative, at 1 euro to 110 rupees, the rate on 2026-09-01. Nothing in this table is a room rate. We do not sell hotels and we do not publish a price we cannot stand behind.

Ten cars, no deposit, handed over at the airport, the jetty or your hotel. The small ones do the whole of Mahé and the Jimny does the hill roads.

Two islands, a ferry crossing each way, a hire car for the Mahé half, a boat day out of Praslin and a transfer at each end. On our published prices that whole ground package is a few hundred euros for the fortnight, and everything else is the room.
That last sentence is the point of this article. The ground cost of a Seychelles trip is fixed and knowable before you book anything. The variable is where you sleep, and the room is the only part where the country's reputation is deserved.
What a family of four spends
The ferry is the one place a family feels it sharply, because four adult crossings to Praslin and back is a real number. Children travel from thirty-nine euros, which takes the edge off it. The hire car does not care how many of you there are and neither does the apartment, so the per-person cost falls as the party grows.
A family of four self-catering on the calm coast, with one car for the fortnight and two boat days, is an ordinary mid-range holiday. It is not a resort week in the Maldives and it is not trying to be.
Where the money actually goes
Rooms first, by a distance. Flights second. Everything else put together is usually less than either. That is not the order most people expect, and it is why this guide spends more words on which coast to sleep on than on saving twenty euros on a transfer.
The second largest avoidable cost is movement. Every extra island move is a ferry, a check-out and half a day. Two moves across ten nights is right. Four moves across ten nights is a different holiday and a more expensive one.
The savings that are real, and the ones that are not
Real: travel in May or June, take the north-west coast, self-cater at least half the nights, hire a car instead of taking taxis, and use the ferry rather than the domestic flight unless the timings genuinely need it.
Not real: booking the cheapest room on the wrong coast for your month, which costs you the sea. Skipping the car on Mahé, which costs you the island. Cutting ten nights to five to save two, which costs you the country and leaves the air fare exactly where it was.
A note on the exchange rate
Everything here is quoted to visitors in euros and paid locally in Seychellois rupees, and the two are not interchangeable at the till. The rupee figures on this site are indicative conversions from the euro price, at a rate printed with its date, so that you can do the arithmetic in a currency you think in.
They are not a price anybody will hold you to in rupees, and no honest operator would offer one. What is fixed is the euro figure.

Is Seychelles affordable for an Indian family?
The ground costs are, and those are the part this site publishes: a hire car from forty-five euros a day, the ferry to Praslin at fifty-six euros, transfers at a price agreed before you fly. The variable is the room, and self-catering on the calm coast changes the total more than anything else you can do.
How much is the ferry between the islands?

Which is the cheapest month?
June, in the middle of the south-east trades, which falls inside the Indian summer break. Stay on the north or west coast in those months and the sea is flat while the rates are at their lowest of the year.
