A private reserve with four villas
Cousine
Island · Private reserve
Cousine in short.
Cousine is thirty hectares six kilometres west of Praslin, run since 1992 as a conservation project with four villas on it. It is free of introduced predators, which is why several of the rarest birds in the world are on it.

What it protects
Seychelles warbler, Seychelles magpie-robin and Seychelles fody all hold populations here, along with breeding colonies of shearwaters, tropicbirds, noddies and white terns. Hawksbill turtles nest on the beach. Aldabra giant tortoises were brought in and have stayed.
Over two thousand native trees have been planted since 1995 and the introduced species taken out. The four villas exist to pay for that, which is a model several of the private islands here now follow.
Not Cousin
The neighbouring island, Cousin, is a public reserve run by Nature Seychelles and is visited on organised trips. Cousine, with the e, is private. The two are routinely confused, including by people selling trips.
