Northolme is fifty-six villas on a cliff at Glacis, on the north coast, stepping down to a small private lagoon. Many have their own pool and a deck that hangs over the water. It is a small resort pretending to be nothing larger, and the scale is the whole point.
It holds 4.6 from more than twelve hundred reviews, and the detail worth noticing in those reviews is how many of them are written by people on a third or fourth stay. Repeat guests are the hardest thing for a hotel to buy and the easiest thing for a reader to verify.
There is a spa, restaurants, and a house reef you can snorkel straight off the rocks. There is no children's club and no programme, and the resort is the better for the omission.
Where it stands.
Glacis is the quiet rocky stretch just past Beau Vallon at the northern tip of Mahé, about twenty-five minutes from Victoria and the airport. It is green and residential, hillside houses and small coves, with clear water and good snorkelling off the rocks. Beau Vallon and its dive centres, restaurants and Wednesday food market are a few minutes down the road.
What a week here feels like.
Steps. A cliff resort is a resort of staircases, and the reward is that every villa faces open water with nothing between it and the horizon. Evenings here are the quietest on the north coast.
Who it suits.
Couples, honeymoons and anniversaries. Grown-up and romantic rather than family-shaped, and the staircases make that decision for you if the reviews do not.

Twenty-five minutes from the airport, which is the shortest run of any villa resort on the island and makes this a workable first or last night as well as a whole stay. The house reef below matters for a couple who want to snorkel without committing to a boat day. If the trip is a honeymoon following a wedding at home, this is the one that asks least of you on arrival.
