Kempinski sits on a near-perfect crescent at Baie Lazare, on the quieter south-west coast, and the setting is the first thing every review mentions. Sheltered sand, calm water, a green hill behind. A hundred and fifty rooms and villas climb that hill, with several restaurants including Windsong, part of which stands on the sand itself, plus a spa, a dive centre, tennis courts and a large pool.
It holds 4.7 from more than four thousand reviews, one of the two largest review bases on this whole page. What comes through them is the service rather than the marble, a team across the restaurants, the beach and the front desk that guests describe as warm from the first day.
One quiet signal is worth more than the score. Seychellois themselves buy the day pass here. Locals paying to spend a Sunday at a resort they could avoid is the most reliable review a hotel on this island can get.
Where it stands.
Baie Lazare is on the south-west of Mahé, about forty minutes from the airport and Victoria, in the calmer and greener half of the island. Some of the best beaches in the country are within a short drive, Anse Intendance and Petite Anse among them, and the craft village and the artist studios nearby are worth an afternoon.
What a week here feels like.
A full resort, run properly, with enough on site that you will use the car less than you expected. The cove is calm and swimmable in a way that suits a family with small children as easily as a couple, which is unusual and is most of why the score holds.
Who it suits.
Families and couples who want everything in one place without giving up a beautiful beach. It is the safe recommendation on Mahé in the good sense of the phrase: very few people are disappointed here.

Practically: the cove is shallow and calm, there are five kitchens so a fussy eater has options, and the resort is used to large family bookings. Forty minutes from the terminal, so take a transfer on the landing night and pick the car up at the resort the next morning.

Mahé is the island the international flights land on, so there is no boat and no second flight in the way. The drive from the terminal is between twenty minutes and an hour depending on the coast.
